Summary

Border Security Force (BSF) invites online applications from eligible Indian citizens (male & female) for Head Constable (Radio Operator) [HC(RO)] and Head Constable (Radio Mechanic) [HC(RM)] in Group ‘C’, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial, combatised cadre on temporary basis likely to be made permanent. Applications are accepted online only. The posts carry all India liability; selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India and even abroad. Online application opens on 24-08-2025 (11:00 PM) and closes on 23-09-2025 (11:59 PM). Selection involves three phases: PST/PET, Computer Based Test (CBT), and Document Verification with Dictation & Paragraph Reading (HC-RO only) plus DME/RME. Women candidates are encouraged to apply.

Post and Vacancy Details

Notes:

• 10% of vacancies reserved for Ex-Servicemen and 5% for Compassionate Appointment out of 75% Direct Recruitment quota. Remaining 25% reserved for willing & eligible BSF Constable (GD/Tradesmen) under LDCE. Unfilled ESM/CA/LDCE quotas will be transferred to Direct Entry within respective reservation quota.
• Candidates may apply for HC(RO), or HC(RM), or both (separate applications and fees; one recruitment centre; post preference must be fixed in application and cannot be changed).

Salary Details

• Pay Level-4: ₹25,500–81,100 (7th CPC)
• Allowances: Dearness Allowance, Ration Money, Dress Allowance, Special Compensatory Allowance (as applicable), free uniform, free accommodation or HRA, Transport Allowance, LTC, and other admissible allowances.
• Pension: Covered under New Pension Scheme as per CCS (Extraordinary Pension) Amendment Rules-2003.

Educational Qualification

• HC(RO):
  • Option 1: 12th/Intermediate (regular student) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) with aggregate 60% in PCM, from a recognized Board/University/Institution.
  • OR Option 2: Matriculation/equivalent + 2-year ITI in any of: Radio & Television/Electronics Engg/Computer Operator & Programming Assistant/Data Preparation & Computer Software/General Electronics Engg/Data Entry Operator from recognized institute.
• HC(RM):
  • Option 1: 12th/Intermediate (regular student) with PCM with aggregate 60% in PCM.
  • OR Option 2: Matriculation/equivalent + 2-year ITI in any of: Radio & Television/General Electronics/Computer Operator & Programming Assistant/Data Preparation & Computer Software/Electrician/Fitter/IT & Electronics System Maintenance/Communication Equipment Maintenance/Computer Hardware/Network Technician/Mechatronics/Data Entry Operator.

Age Limit

• Direct Entry:
  • UR: 18–25 years (as on application closing date)
  • OBC: 18–28 years
  • SC/ST: 18–30 years
• Relaxations:
  • SC/ST: +5 years; OBC: +3 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: UR +3 yrs after deducting military service; OBC +6 yrs; SC/ST +8 yrs
  • Govt employees with ≥3 years regular service: UR up to 30 yrs; OBC up to 33 yrs; SC/ST up to 35 yrs
  • Widow/Divorced/Women judicially separated and not remarried: UR up to 35 yrs; OBC up to 38 yrs; SC/ST up to 40 yrs
  • LDCE (willing BSF GD/Tradesmen with ≥3 years service): UR/EWS up to 40 yrs; OBC up to 43 yrs; SC/ST up to 45 yrs
  • Children/dependents of victims of 1984 riots: +5 yrs (with District Collector certificate)
• DOB as per Matric/Secondary certificate only; no change allowed later.

  • Height: 165cm (relaxations: 160cm for Garhwalis, Kumaonese, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Leh & Ladakh, Kashmir Valley, NE States, Himachal Pradesh; 162.5cm for Adivasis/Tribals incl. Mizos & Nagas; male ST of NE States further 163cm)
  • Chest: 81cm unexpanded (relaxation: Adivasis/Tribals 76cm unexpanded/81cm expanded)
  • Weight: Corresponding to height
• Women:
  • Height: 157cm (155cm for hill areas; 154cm for Tribals/Adivasis incl. Mizos & Nagas)

Selection Process

• First Phase: PST & PET (through RFID)
  • Male: 1.6km in 6.5 min; Long Jump 11ft (3 chances); High Jump 3.5ft (3 chances)
  • Female: 800m in 4 min; Long Jump 9ft (3 chances); High Jump 3ft (3 chances)
  • PET is qualifying; must qualify each event separately
  • Ex-Servicemen: Exempt from PET; Departmental (LDCE) also exempt from PST/PET/DME (subject to SHAPE-I and other conditions)
• Second Phase: Computer Based Test (CBT), 2 hours, 100 MCQs, 200 marks, bilingual (English/Hindi)
  • Part I Physics: 40 Q (80 marks)
  • Part II Mathematics: 20 Q (40 marks)
  • Part III Chemistry: 20 Q (40 marks)
  • Part IV English & GK (Current Affairs, History, Geography, General Science): 20 Q (40 marks)
  • Negative marking: -0.25 per wrong answer (each question 2 marks)
  • Qualifying marks: Gen/OBC/EWS 38%; SC/ST 33%; Compassionate 20%
• Third Phase: Document Verification; Dictation & Paragraph Reading (HC-RO only); Detailed/Review Medical Examination (DME/RME)
  • HC(RO): Dictation (English) 150 words – 50 marks; Paragraph Reading – qualifying
    • Dictation qualifying: Gen/OBC/EWS 38%; SC/ST 33%; CA 20%
    • Dictation marking: -0.5 per single-letter error; -1 per word error
  • HC(RM): No dictation; proceed to DME/RME after DV
• Final Merit:
  • HC(RO): CBT (200) + Dictation (50) = 250; must qualify paragraph reading
  • HC(RM): CBT (200)
  • Tie-breakers: higher total marks; older age; alphabetical order of first name; higher PCM marks in 12th; for Matric+ITI, higher aggregate in Maths & Science; reserved candidates in merit without relaxation placed in UR merit
  • Separate lists for CA; no waiting list

• Examination Fee:

Instructions

• Documents for DV: Admit card, educational certificates, ITI (if applicable), DOB proof (Matric), valid EWS (2025-26), OBC NCL + eligibility, SC/ST, Discharge (ESM), LDCE NOC/Disc-Vig/Service certificate/SHAPE-I, domicile/height/tribal relaxation proofs, 3 photos, self-addressed envelope, and any other relevant proofs.
• Medical standards: As per MHA CAPFs uniform guidelines; vision: distant 6/6 & 6/9, near N6/N9, CP-III by Ishihara, no correction by glasses; binocular vision required; detailed rejection grounds listed in notification.
• CBT objections: Online link opens 3–4 days after CBT; submit within window.
• Prohibitions: Mobiles/electronics banned at tests; misconduct leads to debarment per schedule; beware of touts—no money for recruitment.
• General: Only Indian citizens willing to serve anywhere in India/abroad may apply; governed by BSF Act/Rules; no TA/DA; centre change not allowed (department may reassign if required); track portal/website for updates.
