Salary Details
- Pro-bono service required until accreditation or for two years (whichever is earlier).
- After pro-bono period and based on active participation, mediator will be entitled to honorarium as per High Court norms on recommendation of Director, TNMCC/Registrar (Judl.)/Principal District Judge.
- Retired Judicial Officers inducted post-retirement: pro-bono for six months; honorarium payable thereafter; permitted to mediate individually from the beginning (co-mediator clause not applicable during pro-bono).
Educational Qualification
- Legal Practitioners: Minimum 10 years standing at the Bar at the level of Supreme Court/High Court/District Court or equivalent status.
- Experts/Other Professionals: Minimum 15 years’ experience; or retired Senior Bureaucrats; or retired Senior Executives.
- Preference: Advocates in regular/active practice.
Age Limit
- Minimum 40 years at the time of application.
- Relaxable at the discretion of the TNMCC, High Court, Madras, in suitable cases.
Selection Process
- Application scrutiny by District Mediation Centre/Principal District Judge.
- Candidates willing to undergo 40 Hours Mediation Training Programme forwarded to TNMCC Committee for approval.
- Mandatory Training: 40 Hours (5 days) Mediation Training as per MCPC curriculum; attendance compulsory on all five days.
- Post-Training Empanelment: Final panel approved by TNMCC Committee and notified on respective court notice boards/cause lists.
- Accreditation: Upon mediating 10 matters resulting in settlement and conducting at least 20 mediations in total; post-accreditation, 20 hours refresher course every three calendar years.
- Panel Tenure: Initially three years; renewal subject to regularity, performance, and approval. Non-regular mediators may be placed on non-roster or not renewed.

Instructions
- Eligibility: Ensure minimum age and professional standing requirements.
- Disqualifications (any one will render ineligible):
- Adjudged insolvent or declared of unsound mind
- Criminal charges involving moral turpitude framed and pending; or conviction for offence involving moral turpitude
- Disciplinary proceedings/charges of moral turpitude pending or resulting in punishment
- Within last 10 years: debarred/suspended from practice of law; denied Bar admission due to character/unethical conduct; publicly reprimanded/ disciplined for professional misconduct
- Panel Size & Posting: Determined by pendency and Committee discretion; mediators typically in one panel; shifting between panels possible on application and approval.
- Pro-bono Requirement:
- Trained mediators to serve pro-bono until accreditation or two years (whichever earlier); to sit as co-mediator with an Accredited Mediator, except retired Judicial Officers (who may mediate individually).
- In stations lacking Accredited Mediators, two non-accredited mediators may co-mediate as an exception.
- Renewal: Regular attendance is essential; absence for three consecutive sessions may halt fresh allotments; performance and settlements are part of assessment; complaints or ethical breaches may lead to disqualification.
- Training Intimation: Selection letters for training (date/time/venue) issued by Director, TNMCC.
- Ethics: Selected candidates must abide by the Ethics and Code of Conduct for Mediators.
