Salary Details
- For Senior Residents with Post Graduate Degree (MD/MS/DM/DNB):
- 1st year: Basic Pay ₹67,700 + 20% NPA
- 2nd year: Basic Pay ₹69,700 + 20% NPA
- 3rd year: Basic Pay ₹71,800 + 20% NPA
- For PG Diploma holders: Above amount reduced by ₹325 per month.
- For candidates without Diploma/PG Degree (MBBS with experience): Above amount reduced by ₹650 per month.
- PG allowance: Included in above; ₹200/month for PG Degree, ₹100/month for PG Diploma (deducted if lower qualification).
- DA, HRA, Transport Allowance: As per Central Government rules based on monthly emoluments.
Educational Qualification
- Post Graduate Degree / DM / DNB or Diploma in concerned specialty from a university recognized by State/Central Government.
- If PG candidates are not available in a specialty:
- MBBS with at least 3 years’ experience after MBBS, including 1 year Junior Residency in Government or MCI-recognized private hospital in concerned specialty, may be considered.
- Such MBBS candidates are appointed initially for 1 year; can be extended year-to-year up to a maximum of 3 years if no PG/Diploma/DM/DNB candidate applies.
Age Limit
- For PG Degree / Diploma holders: Maximum 33 years.
- For Post-Doctoral Degree (DM, etc.): Maximum 35 years.
- Relaxation:
- SC/ST: +5 years
- OBC: +3 years
- Relaxation up to 40 years may be considered only if no candidate is available within 33/35-year limit.

Instructions
- Appointment is purely contractual and does not confer any right for regularization or regular appointment in Railways.
- Total Senior Residency period cannot exceed 3 years; contract is renewable/extendable annually based on performance and availability of eligible candidates.
- Termination: Either side can terminate the contract with one month’s notice or one month’s pay in lieu.
- Accommodation: Free unfurnished residential accommodation may be provided, subject to availability.
- Leave Entitlement:
- One weekly off by rotation.
- 20 days leave per contract year (max 10 days in any 6‑month period).
- No vacation or other leave admissible.
- Medical Facility:
- Free OPD treatment in Railway Hospital for self, spouse and children.
- Free indoor treatment for self only in emergency/acute illness; no referral to private hospitals.
- Duties & Responsibilities:
- As fixed by Railway Administration.
- May include work in national programmes, railway accidents and other duties in interest of administration, in addition to specialty work.
- On‑call duty up to 12 hours/day.
- No private practice allowed.
