Salary Details
The pay scale for the post of Sub-Inspector of Police is Rs. 36,900 – 1,16,600.
Educational Qualification
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an Institution/University recognized by the University Grants Commission/Government in a 10+2+3/4/5 or 10+3+2/3 pattern.
Age Limit
As of 01.07.2023, the applicant should be between 20 and 30 years of age. The upper age limit is relaxable for certain categories:
- BC, BC (Muslim), MBC/DNC: 32 years
- SC, SC(A), ST, and Transgenders: 35 years
- Destitute Widow: 37 years
- Ex-servicemen/Ex-personnel of Central Armed Police Forces: 47 years
- Departmental candidates: 47 years
Selection Process
The recruitment process consists of several stages:
- Written Test: Includes Part I (Tamil Eligibility Test – 100 marks) and Part II (Main Written Exam – 70 marks for Open Quota, 85 for Departmental Quota).
- Certificate Verification and Physical Tests: Includes Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Endurance Test (ET), and Physical Efficiency Test (PET – 15 marks).
- Viva-Voce: 10 marks.
- Special Marks: Up to 5 marks for NCC/NSS/Sports or Medals in the National Police Duty Meet.
The provisional selection will be based on the total marks obtained in the main written exam, PET, viva-voce, and special marks.

- The application fee is Rs. 500/-. Departmental candidates applying for both Open and Departmental quotas must pay Rs. 1000/-.
- Payment can be made online (Net-banking/UPI/Credit card/Debit card) or offline (SBI cash challan).
- Hall tickets will be available for download from the TNUSRB website; no postal hall tickets will be sent.
Instructions
- This recruitment is for Indian citizens only.
- Candidates must obtain a minimum of 40% in the Tamil Language Eligibility Test to be eligible for the evaluation of their main exam answer sheet.
- 20% of vacancies are reserved on a preferential basis for candidates who have studied in the Tamil medium (PSTM).
- Communal reservation is provided within each quota as per existing government rules.
- Provisionally selected candidates will undergo a Medical Examination and Verification of Character and Antecedents.
