Salary Details
The posts offer pay under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS):
- Assistant Section Officer (Post Codes 3235 & 3236): Level 16 (CPS)
- Assistant (Post Codes 1651 & 3237): Level 9 (CPS)
Educational Qualification
As on 01.08.2025, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
For Assistant Section Officer – Secretariat (Post Code 3235)
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree
Service Qualification: Must be holding the post of Assistant in Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service or Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service with drafting experience for a period of not less than five years in the post of Junior Assistant or Assistant or in both posts taken together
Note: Drafting experience shall be taken only for assessing service qualification
For Assistant Section Officer – Finance (Post Code 3236)
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Economics or Statistics
Service Qualification: Must be holding the post of Assistant in Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service or Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service with service for a period of not less than five years in the category of Assistant, inclusive of services rendered in the post of Junior Assistant
For Assistant – Secretariat (Post Code 1651)
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree
Service Qualification: Must be holding the post of Junior Assistant or Assistant in Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service or Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service with service for a period of not less than three years after acquiring Bachelor’s Degree in the category of Junior Assistant or Assistant or both categories put together
For Assistant – Finance (Post Code 3237)
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Economics or Statistics
Service Qualification: Must be holding the post of Junior Assistant or Assistant in Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service or Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service with service for a period of not less than three years in either category or both categories put together
Important Notes:
- The degree qualification must have been obtained by passing in the following order: SSLC + HSC/Diploma or equivalent + Under Graduate Degree
- Service qualification/Drafting experience should have been obtained after acquiring Bachelor’s degree
- Candidates selected must be approved probationers as on 01.08.2025
- Adequate knowledge in Tamil is mandatory
Age Limit
Age as on 01.07.2025:
For Assistant Section Officer (Post Codes 3235 & 3236)
Others, BC (OBCM), BCM, MBC/DC: Should not have completed 35 years
SC, SC(A), ST: Should not have completed 40 years
For Assistant (Post Codes 1651 & 3237)
Others, BC (OBCM), BCM, MBC/DC: Should not have completed 30 years
SC, SC(A), ST: Should not have completed 35 years
Note: Age concessions to persons with benchmark disability, ex-servicemen and destitute widow will NOT apply for this recruitment
Selection Process
The selection process consists of the following stages:
Written Examination
Two papers will be conducted in descriptive type format:
- Paper I: General Tamil (Degree Standard) – 100 Marks – 3 hours
- Paper II: General English (Degree Standard) – 100 Marks – 3 hours
Minimum Qualifying Marks: 60 marks (for all communities) in each paper
Total Marks: 200 marks
Ranking Procedure
Merit list will be prepared based on total marks secured in the written examination (Paper I + Paper II). In case of tie, candidates will be ranked based on:
- Higher qualification
- Seniority in age
- Earlier application submission (determined by application number)
Onscreen Certificate Verification
Candidates will be admitted based on marks obtained in the ratio of 1:3 for General category and 1:2 for Reserved categories.
Physical Certificate Verification and Counselling
Candidates will be admitted in the ratio of 1:3 for General category and 1:1.5 for Reserved categories.
Important: Appearance in both papers is compulsory. Candidates not appearing for any one paper will not be considered for selection.
How to Apply
Candidates must apply only through online mode by following these steps:
Step 1: One Time Registration (OTR)
- Visit the official website: www.tnpscexams.in
- Complete One Time Registration if not already registered
- Pay Rs.150/- as registration fee (valid for 5 years)
- Upload scanned photograph (20-50 KB, 200 DPI) and signature (10-20 KB, 200 DPI)
- Link Aadhaar number with OTR (mandatory)
Step 2: Online Application
- Log in using OTR credentials
- Fill the online application form completely
- Upload recent photograph (taken on or after 07.10.2025) showing name and date
- Upload all required documents and certificates
- Pay examination fee (Rs.100/- unless exempted)
- Submit the application before the last date
Step 3: Application Correction Window
Candidates can edit their application details from 10.11.2025 (12:01 AM) to 12.11.2025 (11:59 PM).

Mandatory Documents to Upload
Candidates must upload the following documents while applying online:
- SSLC/HSC/Degree mark sheets or consolidated mark sheet (for educational qualification and date of birth)
- Community certificate (if applicable) issued by competent authority
- Certificate for Service Qualification from appointing authority (Format in Annexure-VI)
- Attested copy of first page of Service Register
- Attested copy of relevant page of Service Register showing appointment as Junior Assistant/Assistant
- Disability certificate (if applicable) in prescribed format
